Si, sarebbe stato meglio vedere tutto il cartone animato prima di vedere il film, dal momento che tantissimi dettagli del terzo episodio vengono spiegati nel cartone: Grievous che si allena con il Conte Dooku, il rapimento di Palpatine, un accenno alla cicatrice di Anakin, e appunto il perchè della tosse di Grievous.
C'è poco di misterioso, quindi. Al termine del sequestro del senatore Palpatine (Puntata 25), Mace Windu esegue un attacco basato sulla Forza contro il generale separatista, accartocciandogli la corazza pettorale ed impedendogli di respirare. Da quel momento Grievous comincia a tossire. Dal duello con Obi-wan si intuisce che non è nulla di grave, poiché quando le cose si fanno serie il disturbo scompare. Probabilmente è solo il residuo dell'irritazione dovuta all'attacco.
Da quel giorno Grievous è passato dalle Camel senza filtro alle Philips Morris Ultra Light, ma tossisce sempre... oramai il danno è fatto!

ci sono anche una paccata di fumetti (non tutti editi in Italia) che servono a riempire parecchi buchi degli episodi I, II e III. Per non parlare del fatto che poi ci sono dei fumetti che raccontano il "dopo" episodio VI. Per non menzionare i videogiochi, che ora stanno coprendo i primi anni della Repubblica (quindi molto pre Episodio I), mentre qualche anno fa andavano preferibilmente a inserirsi fra Ep.V ed Ep.VI (X-wing, Tie Fighter e compagnia bella). Insomma, manco doversi sorbire la Treccani per star dietro a un paio d’ore di film.
