Un po' di corsa perché in partenza ecco una nuova puntata di TAT, purtroppo rimasta a "fermentare" per una settimana sul disco, per fortuna non è particolarmente legata alle news, ma più che altro un contenitore di mini-recensioni.

All’inizio sono rimasto scioccato: Carlo passa a OpenSUSE, ANATEMA!
Poi ho pensato fosse uno scherzo, ma aprile è lontano.
Infine mi sono convinto che hai fatto bene, ci sono un sacco di idee anche nelle altre distribuzioni, ed esplorarle tiene allenata la mente.
Quando puoi aggiorna a KDE4.1 almeno, o a 4.2 da svn, perché la differenza è davvero notevole. KDE 4 a me non piace molto, ma è affascinante osservare la mole pazzesca di idee che mette sul tavolo (non tutte originalissime, ma tant’è), a differenza purtroppo di Gnome, in crisi di identità riguardo al proprio avvenire (non è un’opinione solo mia, lo ammettono gli stessi developer).
A proposito del lettore mp3 Sony, ti ammiro per la pazienza: virtualizzare Windows soltanto per avere la Grande Ciofeca (ossia SonicStage) va oltre le mie capacità: il mio Walkman è da tempo adibito a unità di storage esterna!

By the way, ho trovato questo (http://nwe00xmp3man.sourceforge.net/) link ad un software open source per l’accesso ai dispositivi Sony della serie NW-E00x. Non so se sia il tuo caso o se il software funzioni effettivamente, ma spero possa essere utile a qualche possessore di tale hardware che vuole lasciare il lato oscuro del software

)… Compiz è un window manager fantastico e personalmente lo uso felicissimamente sulla mia Lenny box con Kde4 e driver nVidia in sostituzione di un Kwin ancora un poco acerbo…
Un solo appunto alla tua recensione della K4 riguardo al window manager Kwin: è vero, i suoi effetti grafici non sono un gran che (soprattutto con schede nVidia), ma la controparte di gnome (il window manager metacity) nemmeno li ha. Il fatto che il Gnome di Ubuntu usi compiz di default è solo una scelta della Canonical per travestire, secondo me, il proprio OS da “Leopard”

Grazie per tutti questi commenti! Tranquillizzo subito gli Gnomi, non è stata una conversione, ma semplicemente un’idea che covavo da tempo. Il mondo linux è troppo ampio ed entusiasmante per avere su 3 computer la stessa identica distribuzione, e anche mi infastidiva un po’ conoscere a menadito Gnome ed essere un completo analfabeta di KDE. Max ha centrato (ancora una volta) il pensiero alla base dell’installazione di OpenSuSE. Inoltre non tutti scelgono linux per liberarsi dal giogo di un sistema operativo proprietario, ma per esigenze di pura efficienza o costi ed espandere un po’ il proprio bagaglio di esperienza oltre le esigenze personali non può che fare bene. La forza scorre ancora potente in GNOME ed Ubuntu!
Non mi libero del lettore mp3 (non è nwe, purtroppo) perché è un cilindro di alluminio indistruttibile e visto che soli

e visto che solitamente lo ascolto anche a letto (e spesso ci dormo sopra) fatico a trovarne un altro altrettanto robusto!
Comunque Windows è un fantastico plugin per linux
e può sempre tornare utile una VM a disposizione!
@ CaST: nelle note dell’episodio ho infatti aggiunto che alla fine sono passato a KDE3 + compiz, con ottimi risultati. Non voleva essere un confronto diretto KDE Vs Gnome ma proprio fra Kwin e lo standard di fatto per il compositing OpenGL!
Non ho motivo di dubitare riguardo a un grande futuro per KWin, ma per il momento, come affermi tu, è davvero troppo acerbo.

A parte che la parola “mangiadischi” continua a girarmi per la testa (te li ricordi?), ti chiedo: perché non fare una puntata su alcune differenze tra le varie distro di Linux? Ubuntu, Open SuSe, Fedora, Debian… insomma: quale scegliere e perché? Pregi e difetti? E di Ubuntu 8.10 che sta per uscire, che ne pensi?

episodio davvero ottimo, anche se come sai sono in fase di boicottaggio e lo ascolterò solo 8 volte invece delle solite 12.
Complimenti per il passaggio a openSuse, che nonostante il “fattaccio” resta la mia distro preferita.
Mi permetto di criticare quanto suggerito nella puntata di Systm riguardo la costruzione del theremin: innanzitutto nella mia follia “costruire” un theremin significa smadonnare per trovare i componenti, segare il legno, tranciare l’alluminio, e non saldare un kit pre-assemblato, pre-preparato,ecc., ma questa è una mia “paturnia” personale…
Inoltre a + o – lo stesso prezzo del kit del thereminvox della paia si compra il B3 della soundlikeburns, che è già montato e soprattutto tarato ed è un’altra cosa: praticamente il meglio che si può avere extra-moog. Da ultimo per un curioso-principiante-smanettone tipo me suggerirei un theremin ad una antenna sola, tipo il mio adorato simil-harr

Proprio ieri Franceso mi ha proposto di realizzare una simile puntata -quale distro scegliere a seconda delle proprie esigenze.
Per me sarà dura, perché sono piuttosto prudente e mi piace testare a fondo le cose prima di parlarne, come dimostra le 3 settimane d’uso prima di accennare a OpenSuSE. Ma sarebbe davvero interessante almeno per le principali distribuzioni, più esposte all’attenzione dei nuovi arrivati nel mondo Linux.
